Intermural Sports
Junior intermural sports are run throughout the year for all junior students to enjoy. Students will get an opportunity to play soccer, volleyball, basketball and floor hockey. Intermurals are a great way for students to learn new sports and to spend time with their classmates. Our travelling teams are made up of students chosen from the intermural league.
Cross Country
Dunlop's Cross Country Running Club began practising in the Second Week of September to prepare for the October 11th Cross Country Meet at Terry Fox Stadium at Mooney's Bay. Each day, three times a week, the determined students from Grades 4 to 6, ran between 1.6 and2.0 km. Over the four and a half week training period they all improved their times. The team was coached by Laura Faller and Jeff Siderius. At the Regional Meet several students scored in the top 30 for their category. All students represented Dunlop well! Way to Go!
Beading Club
Beading club is for students interested in learning how to make jewelry using beads and gems. It is a chance for them to use their creativity. In return they get to get to bring home their own their creations.
Green Team
Student volunteers from grades 4, 5 and 6 are organized into teams to ensure Dunlop P.S. is a clean and energy-efficient school! Every lunch hour teams inspect classrooms to check for lights off that do not need to be on, computers off that are not in use, dripping water faucets, and that the proper materials are being placed in both the recycling bins and the garbage. The teams run a battery collection program, as well as a composting program. In addition to their hard work around the school, throughout the year different team members attend various environmental workshops organized by Earth Care Canada as well as the 100th Monkey EcoSummit! Every spring energy audits are performed around Ottawa by similar teams and groups which have contributed to a $1.5 million savings in energy costs throughout the board - which results in every school that participates receiving a monetary incentive (gains-sharing) to put towards "greening" our school!
